Dehydrating Chives
A healthy clump of chives or green onions grow back healthier if they are occasionally given a bit of a haircut. But what to do with all those chives? Here’s an idea - make green onion powder! It’s easy, smells amazing, and will take your baked potato or scrambled eggs to the next level!
First, you chop the chives (or green onion tops) into small pieces.
Place them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Set the oven to it’s lowest temp (mine is 170) and bake them until they’re dry an crunchy. Stir them every 10-15 minutes. Mine took about 40 minutes, but it’s best to keep checking them until they are fully dried out. Let them fully cool to room temp.
Put the dried, cooled chives in the blender or food processor and pulse them until they are a fine, green powder.
Store them in an airtight container and use them on everything. I mean it. They’re fantastic. Scrambled eggs. Sour cream dip. Baked potato. Yum!
